2022 Theme: Debate & Diplomacy in History (offical NHD video)

Registration opens on Thursday, Nov. 25 at 12:00am.

Dates to Remember:

  • Registration closes for the Brazos Valley Regional History Fair— Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 (by 11:59pm)—
    • Papers (including the PROCESS PAPER) must be uploaded via the student’s registration page— Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 (by 11:59pm)—
    • Exhibit  process papers via the student’s registration page- Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 (by 11:59 pm)—          
    • Websites must be published and will be locked for further editing— Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 (by 11:59pm)
      • ALL websites MUST be created using the NHD web editor
    • Documentaries and Process Paper must be uploadedMonday, Jan. 17, 2022 (by 11:59pm)
    • Performances process paper must be uploaded via the student registration page-Monday, Jan. 17, 2022 (by 11:59pm)

UPLOAD INSTRUCTIONS:

 Here is how the projects will be collected from the students during the registration process.

Websites:  Students will enter their eight digit Project Key (no change from last year)

Papers:  Students will upload their title page, process paper, paper and annotated bibliography (in that order) in one PDF formatted document. 

Exhibits: Students will upload a PDF with their title page, process  paper and annotated bibliography where it is indicated  "Written Materials."

Performances:  Students will upload a PDF document with their title page, process paper and annotated bibliography where it is indicated "Written Materials."

Documentaries:   Students will enter their Project Link URL  (linked to where their documentary is stored - Google Drive, One Drive, DropBox).  Students will upload a PDF document with their title page, process paper and annotated bibliography where it is indicated "Written Materials."

Judging Process

How does the judging process work?
Each separate division and category is judged as a whole by a team of three judges. Due to the number of entries, run-off rounds may be required. In such cases, the entries judged best by each team of initial judges are judged by a new team of judges to determine the winning entries in the category. The number of entries in a run-off and procedures for run-off judging vary by contest and category.

Consensus judging
Judges will not assign a numerical score to each entry; instead, they will rank the entries in their group. Judges are required to consult with each other in determining individual rankings. Judges are allowed to review the results of their category upon completion of the judging in order to ensure accuracy of the judging process. As a final step, the judges will assign each entry an overall ranking.

Judging Criteria
All projects must be connected to the NHD annual theme. Additionally, all projects must adhere to general and category specific rules set out in the NHD Contest Rule Book. Any rule infraction will be taken into consideration in the final rankings. Projects are judged on the overall following criteria:

  • Historical Accuracy (80%)
  • Relation to Theme (20%)

The subjective nature of judging
Judges evaluate each entry as objectively as possible, although the BVRHF recognizes there is an inherent subjective nature to judging. 

The decision of the judges is final
All involved (students, parents, and teachers) should realize that inadvertent inequities might occur in judging. BVRHF officials want to be informed of any problems, but the decisions of the judges are final.

Judge Registration
Judges are asked to sign up for judging through the online registration system. To register:

  1. Click Create Account and choose Judge from the drop-down menu
  2. Fill in the information; click Next
  3. Fill in the personal information; click Save & Continue. (Please note your username and password.)
  4. Enter Judge’s Preferences and Conflict of Interest; click Next
  5. Agree to Permissions and Waivers
  6. Logout

If you are unable to register through our online system, please email the history fair coordinator. 

Judges are able to change their judge preferences including availablity and meal preferences through the My Profile feature under the Judge drop down menu.
